Introducing Paperstars: A Platform for Scientists, By Scientists
Paperstars is a new research platform focussed on post-publication peer review, open access, and replacing citation-based metrics with community-driven, qualitative evaluations. Help shape the future of scientific publishing.
Science deserves better.
The way we share, review, and evaluate research is long overdue for change—and that’s exactly what we’re building with Paperstars.
This platform is currently in development, and it’s being designed by scientists, for scientists. Our mission is to create a space where researchers can connect, collaborate, and critically engage with published work in meaningful, constructive ways.
📉 Beyond Citations. Toward Meaning.
Right now, scientific credibility is tied too closely to quantitative metrics—H-indexes, citation counts, journal impact factors. These numbers often reflect prestige more than quality, and they rarely encourage thoughtful engagement or meaningful impact.
Paperstars is flipping the script.
We’re focussing on qualitative metrics: structured reviews, transparent community ratings, and open discussion.
Researchers will be able to:
✅ Share thoughtful, scaffolded reviews of published papers
⭐ Rate papers based on clarity, rigour, reproducibility, and relevance
💬 Discuss work openly—anonymously with academic verification
🚩 See contextual info like retractions, data availability, and rebuttals
This isn’t about gaming the system. It’s about building trust, improving research quality, and creating a more transparent and accountable scientific record.
🌍 Science for Progress, Not Prestige
We believe science should exist to advance knowledge, not just careers. The pressure to “publish or perish” has led to rushed research, unreproducible results, and an unhealthy culture of output over insight.
Paperstars is about shifting the focus back to discovery, collaboration, and integrity.
We want to:
🌐 Support global voices, especially those outside the dominant institutions in the Global North
📣 Amplify contributions from early-career researchers as much as senior academics
🧠 Create a healthier, more diverse research ecosystem that reflects the richness of science everywhere
📖 Encourage open access science practices, that are making knowledge more freely available, and rewarding papers that share data and findings transparently
We’re working to partner with open access journals and create incentives that support and promote open access publishing.
We’re still early in this journey—building, testing, and listening. But we know one thing for sure: science can do better, and together, we can help it get there.
